About the role

Printpack is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of a Product Development Engineer I, or II within our Rigid Division. The level will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications.

This position is located in Williamsburg, VA and will report to the Product Development Manager for the Rigid Division. Travel is estimated at approximately 30%.   

Responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinating directly with customers, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and operations planning with specific focus on customer experience for a rapid, successful commercialization of new products 

  • Project management of new product developments 

  • Designing commercial specifications to be fit-for-use and fit-for-make.  Gathering data and analyzing data using statistical techniques 

  • Leading customer technical calls/visits and manufacturing/customer trials to expedite commercialization 

  • Leading Divisional initiatives on new converting and raw material technology.  Identifying opportunities for innovative growth.  Disseminating such information appropriately within the Printpack commercial organization 

  • Supporting Printpack manufacturing with on-site support of new product development trials 

  • Proactive identification of end user value and packaging features 

  • Proactive identification of cost savings opportunities 

Requirements:  

  • Four (4) year degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Material/Packaging Science, or equivalent work experience 

  • Prior experience in the packaging industry is preferred 

  • PET/PE/PS/PP films, sheet, adhesives, extrusion, inks experience a plus. 

  • Experience with trim in place and remote trim thermoforming, extrusion blow molding, injection molding or other rigid packaging is a plus 

  • Prior experience working in product development or process engineering, particularly in managing complex projects with direct customer interaction is preferred. 

  • PMP training and/or certification is a plus 

  • Travel commitment: approximately 30%
