VP of Material, Global
QuinceAbout the role
OUR STORY
Quince was started to challenge the existing idea that nice things should cost a lot. Our mission was simple: create an item of equal or greater quality than the leading luxury brands and sell them at a much lower price.
OUR VALUES
Customer First. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority.
High Quality. True quality is a combination of premium materials and high production standards that everyone can feel good about.
Essential design. We don’t chase trends, and we don’t sell everything. We’re expert curators that find the very best and bring it to you at the lowest prices.
Always a better deal. Through innovation and real price transparency we want to offer the best deal to both our customers and our factory partners.
Environmentally and Socially conscious. We’re committed to sustainable materials and sustainable production methods. That means a cleaner environment and fair wages for factory workers.
OUR TEAM AND SUCCESS
Quince is a retail and technology company co-founded by a team that has extensive experience in retail, technology and building early stage companies. You’ll work with a team of world-class talent from Stanford GSB, Google, D.E. Shaw, Stitch Fix, Urban Outfitters, Wayfair, McKinsey, Nike etc.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on VP of Materials Sourcing & Procurement to lead our Tier 2 (and above) supply chain across raw materials and components for our growing assortment. You will own global strategy and execution across fabric, yarn, leather, metals, gold, and other key fabrications/raw materials, with the mandate to drive quality, cost-efficiency, and localization in alignment with Quince’s hypergrowth and direct-to-consumer model.
This leader will be accountable for reshaping our global materials footprint, developing material should-cost frameworks, building deep supplier partnerships, and driving a tech-enabled material procurement ecosystem. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of supply chain innovation, cost rigor, and supplier development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sourcing & Procurement Strategy:
- Lead global sourcing strategies for materials across Quince’s key categories, including cashmere, linen, mulberry silk, organic cotton, and premium leather. Develop tailored sourcing strategies for each category, balancing the need for localized material sourcing (for sustainability and cost efficiency) and global sourcing for scalability and cost optimization.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard Tier 2/Tier 3 material suppliers to meet our quality, speed, and cost requirements. Work closely with Tier 1 partners to ensure smooth integration of raw materials.
- Assess geopolitical risks, labor practices, and sustainability impacts, ensuring the ability to mitigate risks associated with sourcing from countries like China, SEA, India, EMEA, and the Americas.
Supplier Development & Relationship Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard mills, tanneries, spinners, and other suppliers aligned with Quince’s quality and cost standards.
- Build enduring relationships with Tier 2/Tier 3 partners that can support scale, speed, and innovation.
- Develop a supplier segmentation framework to prioritize strategic investments and engagement.
Costing & Negotiations:
- Lead creation and institutionalization of cleansheet/should-cost models for all core materials, including detailed views on raw material/fiber, labor, overhead, and margin.
- Establish cost targets and negotiation anchors that are fair, aggressive, and grounded in data.
- Negotiate competitive pricing to drive cost reduction, optimal payment terms, and favorable delivery schedules while managing supplier performance and driving continuous improvement.
- Ensure cost transparency of mill material costs including flowthrough of commodity market pricing
Quality & Sustainability Leadership
- Establish the standard for “premium quality” across material categories, leveraging consumer insights and technical criteria (e.g., GSM, pilling, dye fastness).
- Create material quality protocols that go beyond defect minimization to elevate consumer experience.
- Partner with Sustainability team to integrate responsible sourcing standards into material qualification and costing.
Technology & Systems
-
Partner with Engineering to enhance our internal Vendor Portal and tech stack to track materials costing, vendor performance, and milestone delivery.
