Duties

Duties: Function 1) as a subject matter expert and lead process design engineer for natural gas processing specifically amine unit and sulfur recovery and 2) supervisor managing the development and performance of more than 10 junior engineers. Perform in a leadership role in projects for natural gas, hydrogen, gasification, sulfur recovery, gas treatment, and natural gas liquids recovery and fractionation. Lead implementation of amine unit and sulfur recovery solutions through the project life cycle: feasibility, front-end loading (FEL) stages, front-end engineering and design (FEED), detailed design, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) project delivery, commissioning and operational tasks. Develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex engineering problems. Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Evaluate facility data to develop operational improvement recommendations. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements for the process design team. Lead larger production teams and serve as a mentor to junior engineers.  Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members (client and construction partners) on moderately complex projects. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on complex projects and will interact with key external stakeholders to manage design, quality, budget, and schedule challenges. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on complex projects. As a supervisor for more than 10 junior professionals, the role is responsible for the development of technical skills with focus on their career development, monthly training sessions, and quarterly review of the professional’s project execution performance.  Responsible for the performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Coordinate with resource managers on the availability of junior professionals and assist identify and obtain tasks for those that are supervised. Role recommends compensation, promotion, and termination actions to Department Leader.  Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require employer sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H-1B visa, TN visa or any other non-immigrant status).  No hire / fire authority.

Requirements

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field and 11 years of related experience. Must be a licensed engineer in the United States or Canada (PE or P.Eng).  Must have five years’ experience, with SRU/Amine Unit design and operations, troubleshooting, management of change, feasibility studies, commissioning and pre-commissioning. Must have actively participated in process hazard analysis and HAZOP safety standards as a technical contributor.  Must have experience working with PRO II, Promax, Protreat, HYSYS and similar process simulation packages.  Must have experience driving business development. Telecommuting is permitted within standard commuting distance of the employer’s Overland Park, KS office location.  Up to 15 percent travel required.  Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
