We are seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Unaccredited Registrar - Neurosurgery vacancies.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Tasmanian Neurosurgical Unit is a Statewide Service receiving elective and emergency Neurosurgery and Neurology patients and treats a wide range of Neurological and Neurosurgical conditions including Cranial and Spinal Trauma, Tumours, Vascular, Paediatric and Complex Spine.

Salary
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work (with on call), working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028.
- Appointments up to 24 months may be available for suitable applicants
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Duties
The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.
Essential Requirements
- Registration or eligible for Registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

- Crimes of Violence
- Sex Related Offences
- Serious Drug Offences
- Crimes involving dishonesty
- Identification check
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
