About the role

 

Job Summary

The Student Wellness Center (SWC) at San José State University is seeking an accomplished and strategic leader to serve as the Director of Finance and Resource Operations. As a pivotal member of the SWC’s executive leadership team, the Director will be responsible for the financial and operational integrity of a nationally accredited healthcare, counseling, and wellness organization that supports over 120 employees and manages more than $18 million in capitated revenue. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Student Services, the Director will lead and oversee all aspects of fiscal planning, business operations, and people management. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in financial strategy, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and human resource management within a complex, service-oriented organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and partner on the Student Wellness Center leadership team
  • Develop, analyze, and manage multi-fund budgets including operating, capital, and grant funds
  • Oversee fiscal standards, resource sustainability, regulatory compliance, and reporting
  • Lead revenue cycle management including billing, insurance, and cost recovery agreements
  • Oversee procurement and purchasing activities to ensure efficiency and value-based care
  • Direct people operations: staffing, onboarding, performance management, and professional development planning
  • Represent the Student Wellness Center on university committees and initiatives

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of financial management sufficient to direct professional staff and coordinate all aspects involved with fiscal requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and budgetary practices to develop annual budget, analyze financial data and patterns, and prepare financial statements
  • Working knowledge of the health and behavioral health care marketplace and integrated healthcare delivery networks
  • Ability to learn and apply a variety of state, federal, California State University (CSU), and San José State University (SJSU) policies and procedures, including governmental and health care fiscal regulations and reporting requirements
  • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve objectives
  • Skill in evaluating operations as they relate to policies, goals and objectives, costs, and rate levels
  • Effective communication across a variety of venues, including small groups, patient/students, and campus leadership
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse multicultural environment
  • Skill in identifying, analyzing and resolving accounting and financial problems
  • Balance analytical skills with high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Ability to analyze financial results from operations; complete financial and cash flow forecasts
  • Ability to negotiate managed care contracts
  • Strong skill in spreadsheet and reporting software for the purposes of developing and reviewing budgetary information

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance, or equivalent experience
  • At least three (3) years of progressive leadership experience in budget forecasting, development, reporting and analysis, and management
  • At least three (3) years of position/people management experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance
  • At least three (3) years of progressive leadership experience budget forecasting, development, reporting and analysis, and management in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated experience with SJSU financial systems or similar (PeopleSoft, Data Warehouse, CHRS, etc.)
  • Demonstrated position/people management within a unionized environment

 

Compensation

Classification: Administrator II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $10,000/month - $10,500/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,053/month - $16,221/month

The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
