About the role

Job Description

We are a global law firm with a powerful strategic focus and real momentum. Our industry-focused strategy is seeing us take on pioneering work in places that others have yet to reach. Our shared values define our culture and our workplace. You will find us to be unusually collegial, team-oriented, and ready to innovate. We work seamlessly across practices, offices and around the world. This elimination of boundaries has allowed us to evolve into a law firm that works as hard for its culture as it does for its clients.

Norton Rose Fulbright is seeking an Associate with 4 to 6 years’ experience to join our Global Cybersecurity and Privacy team and support our Cybersecurity & Digital Risk Practice. Our Cybersecurity, Privacy & Information Governance Practice is one of the top-ranked global practices advising clients on their most complex cybersecurity, privacy, and digital risk matters. We represent leading multinational corporations, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and technology companies in addressing emerging threats, high-stakes investigations, and regulatory scrutiny across North America, Europe, and Asia.

This position is designed for a lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, intellectually rigorous, and technology-driven environment. The role centers on cybersecurity incident response, regulatory defense, proactive preparedness, and compliance with emerging privacy and cybersecurity laws at both the state and federal levels.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience advising on cybersecurity incidents or regulatory investigations, or a background in regulatory defense, complex litigation, or enforcement actions coupled with a strong technical aptitude and genuine interest in cybersecurity, data protection, and AI-driven technologies.

You’ll work directly with partners, forensic experts, and executives on matters involving multijurisdictional incidents, cross-regulator coordination, and board-level briefings. Associates in this group receive substantive client contact early and play a critical role in shaping legal strategy and operational readiness for some of the most sophisticated companies in the world.

Key Requirements:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.

  • 4–6 years of experience at a top AmLaw 50 or equivalent national firm.

  • Experience in cybersecurity, privacy, regulatory defense, or high-stakes litigation preferred.

  • Strong technical acumen or demonstrated interest in information security, data governance, or AI-related technologies.

  • Exceptional writing, research, and client communication skills.

  • Admission to practice in Texas (or eligibility for waiver).

  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

Additional Information:

  • Experience coordinating cyber incident response, working with forensics, or engaging with regulators.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) or frameworks.

  • Exposure to AI, data governance, or digital transformation risk management.

Position Information:
This position’s key responsibilities include: Advising clients during cybersecurity incidents, including forensic coordination, containment, notification, and regulator engagement. Representing clients in enforcement actions and investigations by the FTC, SEC, DOJ, HHS OCR, and state Attorneys General. Counsel clients on compliance with emerging cybersecurity and privacy laws, including state, federal, and cross-border frameworks. Supporting board and executive-level cybersecurity preparedness, including tabletop exercises, training, and crisis management simulations. Assist clients in developing and testing incident response plans and broader cyber-risk management frameworks aligned with NIST, ISO, and CIS standards. Draft and negotiate data protection, incident response, and cybersecurity vendor agreements.
Collaborate with international colleagues on cross-border investigations, notification strategy, and regulatory alignment.

Location: Open to Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
