Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country. Lake Erie College is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The Assistant Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country is responsible for recruiting, organization and supervision of the college’s track & field and cross-country program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes, in conjunction with the head coach, all aspects of the program, including facility, meet, practice and operational issues.
- Serves as recruiter for the sport of track & field and cross country, identifying and evaluating potential students with that interest and organizing their recruitment in conjunction with the Office of Admissions.
- Works closely with the promotional and fundraising efforts of the athletics department.
- Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards, where student-athletes are empowered to leave lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.
- Acts as an ambassador of the College and conducts oneself in a positive manner to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
- Operates within the mission of the College and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.
- Acts as a visible person to represent the College in a positive manner and to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
- Assists in all phases of coaching for designated sport’s team.
- Scouts and evaluates potential recruits.
- Works closely with the promotional and team fundraising efforts.
- Helps promote visibility and awareness of the designated sport’s program.
- Handles laundry as prescribed by head coach.
- Assists with athletes’ study hall coverage and coordination.
- Assists with all game setups and operations.
- Other duties as assigned Head Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country or Director of Athletics.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, business or related field preferred.
- Must have demonstrated ability to recruit prospective student-athletes.
- Prior NCAA DII Track & Field/Cross Country playing or coaching experience preferred.
- Must have strong team-building and management skills.
- Growth and “doer” mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.
- Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.
- Must have ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to supervise respective staff, as well as understand the student-athletes' commitment to academics, is a must.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
