URM Stores, Inc. is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Grocery/Retail Meat Specialist to support our member retail meat departments and accelerate meat sales through URM purchasing programs. This role serves as a strategic partner between URM and our retail Members—strengthening performance, driving revenue growth, and enhancing operational excellence.In this position, you will collaborate closely with retail operators and our internal purchasing team to proactively address challenges, identify opportunities, and implement effective, results-focused solutions that best serve our customers.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs for store meat departments, focusing on gross margin optimization, product knowledge, expense control, cost equalization, and incentive strategies to drive profitability.
- Increase sales and profit performance through innovative merchandising strategies, deep industry insight, and advanced technical expertise; conduct regular on-site visits to assigned ad group locations.
- Foster strong, professional relationships with retailers and vendors by consistently delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance by maintaining all required documentation, reporting, and operational records.
- Stay ahead of market trends and industry developments, including thorough knowledge and adherence to all USDA rules and regulations.
- Partner with stores to uphold the highest standards in sanitation, product quality, and perishable inventory management.
- Leverage market data, including rankings and sales trends, to strategically enhance new product placement and category performance.
- Travel frequently (approximately 12–15 nights per month) to support territory operations and drive results.
- Manage and support a designated territory of Independent Retail Grocers, serving as a trusted advisor and performance partner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or 1–2 years of related experience and/or training; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in retail meat management and meat sales within grocery operations.
- Strong meat-cutting expertise and proven retail merchandising capabilities.
- Skilled in building lasting customer relationships through active listening, needs assessment, and solution-based communication.
- In-depth knowledge of the meat industry, including current market trends and USDA regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer needs, deliver effective solutions, and prioritize customer satisfaction while handling differing perspectives with professionalism and tact. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of basic mathematical concepts, including percentages, for accurate pricing and margin analysis.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
