Job Description
Position Purpose:
As a member of our team, you will be working on a wide range of operational and technical issues across municipal and industrial water utility operations, hazardous waste management and building energy services, business support functions and more. Analysts receive mentoring from all levels of the organization and have many opportunities to learn broader business and consulting skills such as large-scale program management, change management, and performance transformation.
Primary Duties /Responsibilities:
The following are specific responsibilities for the role:
- Conduct efficient and effective analyses to solve complex problems through the use of innovative frameworks.
- Identify major areas of opportunity using tools/techniques such as benchmarks, ride-alongs, interviews, and site visits.
- Analyze datasets to identify, quantify, and model performance improvements.
- Establish performance measures (both financial and operational); monitor and analyze performance metrics to identify and implement performance-based improvements.
- Structure and develop sections or chapters of client documents with a clear storyline adapted to the audience (e.g., C-level or frontline staff).
- Synthesize information across a variety of sources to drive meaningful insights and make
- actionable recommendations.
- Deliver prepared oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply appropriate communication strategies to match client context and audience, determining what to put on paper and what messages to verbalize.
- Maintain, enhance, and modernize legacy tools used onsite (e.g., internal dashboards, calculation engines, workflow tools, or reporting solutions).
- Translate business and analytical requirements into technical specifications and implement them in code.
- Refactor and clean up existing codebases to improve reliability, maintainability, performance, and user experience.
- Integrate legacy tools with new or existing data sources, APIs, and reporting platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
- Develop, test, and deploy new features or modules that support consulting projects (e.g., standardized KPI calculators, scenario models, data quality checks).
- Implement basic automation of recurring analyses and reporting to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for tools and workflows so they can be reliably used and supported by others.
- Collaborate closely with consultants, data engineers, and IT teams to ensure tools align with client needs, security standards, and operational constraints.
- Provide user training, troubleshooting, and ongoing support for onsite tools, collecting feedback to inform future improvements.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, or a related quantitative/technical field; Master’s degree is a plus.
- 2–5 years of experience in an analytical, consulting, or business operations role,
- Demonstrated experience conducting data-driven analyses and translating findings into actionable recommendations for business stakeholders.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Hands-on experience working with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python and/or R) and at least one visualization/reporting platform (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
- Experience maintaining or enhancing legacy tools (e.g., Excel/VBA models, access databases, scripts, or internal applications) is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to structure and communicate complex ideas clearly in written documents and presentations, tailored to different audiences (frontline to C-suite).
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams (e.g., working with IT, data engineers, subject-matter experts, or client stakeholders).
