About the role

Our Mission

Healthcare should work for patients, but it doesn’t. In their time of need, they call down outdated insurance directories. Then wait on hold. Then wait weeks for the privilege of a visit. Then wait in a room solely designed for waiting. Then wait for a surprise bill. In any other consumer industry, the companies delivering such a poor customer experience would not survive. But in healthcare, patients lack market power. Which means they are expected to accept the unacceptable.

Zocdoc’s mission is to give power to the patient. To do that, we’ve built the leading healthcare marketplace that makes it easy to find and book in-person or virtual care in all 50 states, across +200 specialties and +12k insurance plans. By giving patients the ability to see and choose, we give them power. In doing so, we can make healthcare work like every other consumer sector, where businesses compete for customers, not the other way around. In time, this will drive quality up and prices down.

We’re 18 years old and the leader in our space, but we are still just getting started. If you like solving important, complex problems alongside deeply thoughtful, driven, and collaborative teammates, read on.

Your Impact on our Mission:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (SSE) to join the Appointment Management team at Zocdoc! This team owns the provider calendar and inbox: the core tools healthcare providers use to view, modify, and manage their appointments and availability on Zocdoc. We’re building toward a future where Zocdoc’s calendar is the go-to scheduling system in healthcare, and your work will directly improve how providers run their practices and how patients get care faster.

As a senior engineer at Zocdoc, you’ll balance individual contribution with mentorship. You'll have the opportunity to work across the stack, front to back and everything in between, with an emphasis on data-driven microservice API development. You’ll take ideas from inception to reality by rapidly building prototypes, iterating and releasing them. You’ll build scalable products that make the healthcare experience for patients, providers, and Zocdocr’s simpler, safer, and more efficient.

You’ll enjoy this role if you are…

  • Excited by the challenge of improving core scheduling systems that sit at the heart of healthcare delivery
  • Passionate about building scalable systems with the latest technologies
  • A product-driven engineer who loves working in a highly collaborative and supportive environment
  • Motivated by building products that make healthcare easier
  • Excited to use technology to enhance the consumer experience
  • Passionate about building diverse and inclusive teams and culture
  • Excited to lead projects and be a mentor for other engineers

 Your day to day is…

  • Owning the end to end development of consumer facing applications, working across C#, React, and AWS-based microservices to deliver secure, high-quality code that impacts millions of patient-provider interactions monthly
  • Building reliable, performant systems that power Zocdoc’s provider calendar and inbox, handling complex scheduling logic and scalability challenges
  • Collaborating with our agile team of dedicated and brilliant engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure a polished user experience
  • Mentoring your peers, with the notion that helping others means learning and growing yourself
  • Working with cutting edge GenAI tools and technology

You’ll be successful in this role if you have…

  • Passion for technology and the ability to think critically about performance, scalability, and reliability of software
  • Enthusiasm for solving high-impact, system-level problems
  • Empathy for users and a passion for great UX
  • Implemented fast and efficient software solutions using object-oriented or functional languages. Some of the technologies we utilize are C#, Scala, React, and Node.js (note, our interview process is language agnostic)
  • Designed and built user facing web applications that scale
  • 5+ years of professional full-stack development experience with experience writing automated tests and deploying code
  • Successfully mentored other engineers in the past and encouraged your peers to use software development best practices for code testing and deployment

Benefits

  • Flexible, hybrid work environment at our convenient Soho location
  • Unlimited Vacation
  • 100% paid employee health benefit options (including medical, dental, and vision)
