Senior Book Production Manager Knopf Doubleday (Open to Remote) 

Book Production for Knopf Doubleday (KDPG) at Penguin Random House seeks a Senior Production Manager and Production Manager to manage the production and manufacturing of KDPG hardcover titles. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that books are produced within budget, delivered on time, and are of the highest quality. The ideal candidate will have extensive 1/c and 4/C experience, possess strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and can creatively problem-solve in order to meet strict deadlines.

This experienced Senior Production Manager will be part of a fast-paced and collaborative group. You should have hands-on experience working with 1/color and 4/color book production and with multiple vendors, including compositors and component printers. You’ll work closely with many colleagues in other departments across the company, especially Production, Production Editorial, Managing Editorial, and Art/Design. The role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, can handle multiple tasks at one time in a deadline-driven environment, and is interested in further managing the bookmaking process for fiction and nonfiction titles.

The Role: 

• Consulting with each publishing group to develop the specifications and schedules for individual titles
• Negotiating schedules with the internal publishing teams and with external vendors
• Issuing purchase orders for each assigned title and approving necessary costs and invoices
• Executing 1/C and 4/C prep, color correction, and manufacturing with domestic and foreign vendors
• Trafficking materials and proof passes internally and to and from outside vendors 
• Entering and maintaining book specifications within SAP and FMP
• Creating manufacturing estimates
• Working closely with compositors, component printers, and binderies with troubleshooting and maintaining schedules
• Examining book and component samples to ensure quality benchmarks are maintained for each title 
• Extensive collaboration with Interior Design, Art, Managing Editorial, and Production Editorial departments to bring all titles to completion

 

The Essentials: 

• Minimum of 7 years of experience with 1/c and 4/C manufacturing, domestic and offshore 
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment 
• Strong estimating skills 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
• Knowledge of SAP, FileMaker Pro, InDesign, and Photoshop a plus 

  

The salary range for this position is 75k - 78k.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
