Primary Purpose:

Provides advanced research training and methodology instruction to students, primarily those enrolled in postdoctoral programs within the College of Dental Medicine. Oversees the Master of Science program, including its curriculum, faculty, and annual student cohort. Serves as a mentor to master’s students and participates as a committee member for relevant master’s and/or certificate students’ research projects. (Continuing Contract)

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Tracks and monitors student academic progress for assigned program.
2. Manages the core curriculum, faculty, and course outcomes for the Master of Science program.
3. Prepares course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
4. Manages grades, student progress, approves theses, and confers degrees for the Master of Science program.
5. Maintains and files all student and faculty files and documents pertaining to the Master of Science program.
6. Reviews degree plans to ensure that students meet graduation requirements.
7. Leads, oversees, and monitors student registration and degree conferral.
8. Assists in activities required for program accreditation.
9. Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and methods of instruction.
10. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
11. Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
12. Initiates, facilitates, and moderates small group discussions.
13. Plans and conducts orientation programs, group conferences, and/or student ceremonies that mark important educational milestones.
14. Assesses student needs using a variety of methods.
15. Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.
16. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
17. Advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues, particularly related to acceptance into graduate level health professions programs.
18. Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
19. Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
20. Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public.
21. Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
22. Designs and conducts independent research projects as the Primary Investigator.
23. Writes grant proposals to procure external research funding.
24. Reviews papers for publication in journals.
25. Supervises graduate teaching and research work.
26. Mentors’ students and junior faculty members.
27. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
28. Maintains the Master of Science Policy Manual and updates the manual as needed and per Committee recommendations.
29. Coordinates activities and student outcomes as the Chair of the Master of Science Degree Committee.
30. Participates as a lecturer for the pre- and post-doctoral courses in Public Health, Epidemiology, Evidence Based Dentistry, and Principles of Research and Publications as per the assignment of the respective course directors.
31. Participates in the subcommittees, departmental meetings and events of the Department of OSTR.
32. Works in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Research and Development in developing a PhD program in preparation of the documents for the program formation.
33. Provides assistance in statistics and epidemiological studies.
34. Provides assistance in manuscript preparations for faculty and residents.
35. Provides assistance with grant applications for faculty and residents.
