Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a  Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Psychiatry.


Location: East Layton

Hours: Monday-Friday, daytime hours


Overview:  

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Physician Assistant or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team in providing comprehensive mental health care to our diverse patient population. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in working with children and adolescents in addition to adults.


Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including mental status assessments, and create individualized treatment plans.  
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and monitor patient responses to medications and therapies.  
  • Collaborate closely with supervising psychiatrists, consulting and referring cases as needed for complex psychiatric care. 
  • Review patient records, integrate diagnostic information, and determine appropriate therapeutic measures with the psychiatrist.  
  • Provide continuity of care by monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatment plans.  
  • Offer patient and family education on health, medications, and treatment plans, promoting illness prevention.  
  • Document all patient interactions and care plans accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining compliance with clinic standards.  


Requirements

Education:

  

For Physician Assistants:  

  • Bachelor’s degree with successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.  
  • Current state PA license and national certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.  
  • Psychiatry CAQ or equivalent experience preferred.


For Nurse Practitioners:  

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.  
  • Completion of advanced practice training and certification from an approved Nurse Practitioner program.  
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification or equivalent experience preferred.


Experience:

  • Nurse Practitioner Experience: Minimum three years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting, plus two years of nurse practitioner experience 
  • Physician Assistant Experience: Four years of health care experience prior to applying to PA program, plus one year of experience as PA, preferably in clinic setting.


Other Requirements:

  • Experience working with pediatric and adolescent patients is highly desirable.  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.  
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to document patient care thoroughly and promptly.

Performance Requirements:


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans.
  • Knowledge of documentation in medical records in confidential manner.


Skills:

  • Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
  • Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
  • Skill in developing/revising patient care plan based on patient status.


Abilities:

  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of PA practice.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians on complicated cases.
  • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterity.


Equipment Operated: Medical instruments required for physical exams and minor surgery and computer hardware/software.


Work Environment: Medical office and exam room settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions common to clinic. Frequent contact with variety of people.
