The Murray laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Program Manager to join their team. The majority of effort will be dedicated to coordinating the investigation of infectious pathogens responsible for acute febrile illness affecting populations in resource-limited countries. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects.
• Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core.
• Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects.
• Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.
• Coordinates various aspects of the study.
• Routinely develops research protocols.
• Reviews and edits text for studies.
• Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research.
• Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team.
• Provides direction to consultants and team members.
• Coordinates and conducts special meetings.
• Develops and conducts presentations, represents Emory at national meetings, and co-authors publications.
• Collaborates on or authors reports and papers.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

• Research
  • Emerging infectious diseases are a serious public health threat in resource-limited settings.
  • In the Murray lab, we have been investigating the causes of acute febrile illness in Belize and El Salvador.
  • One or more pathogens are identified in approximately 45% of enrolled cases; however, the majority go unexplained.
  • We are interested in applying whole genome sequencing and other molecular tools to discover novel pathogens and role these pathogens can play in causing disease.
  • We are also interested in further interrogating the epidemiology of emerging pathogens, the vectors and reservoirs involved in disease transmission, and risk to human health.
• Responsibilities
  • The Program Manager will help lead a team of scientists, students, and staff to conduct laboratory, epidemiological, and field-based studies.
  • The position is ideal for a candidate with a solid background in program management and an interest in clinical and epidemiological projects related to vectors, infectious diseases, and global health studies.
  • The position will require writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and some travel to Central America up to two times a year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
• Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills.
• Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives is preferred.
• Experience conducting focus groups.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Masters level degree in public health or related field with minimum 5 years relevant work experience.
• Preferred background in public health and/or vector-borne disease program management.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work as part of a team.
• Experience in field studies preferred but not required.
• Experience in public health research preferred but not required.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
