Job Purpose

The Engineer will perform engineering evaluation of the Gas Transmission System assets and components including: integrity assessments, risk management, data collection and analysis, performance tracking, asset replacement reviews, records management, and fitness for service reviews. This role will implement and supervise a comprehensive Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) consistent with existing and proposed regulations for over 1200 miles of intrastate natural gas transmission pipelines.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise field assessment of gas transmission pipelines by External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) & Inline Inspection (ILI).
  • Participate in company’s operator quantification (Ops Qual) program.
  • Conduct engineering review and analysis of integrity related system issues such as pipeline defect analysis, failure analysis, fit for service analysis, process safety assessments, metallurgical anomalies in pipeline systems and As-built documents verification.
  • Supervise and provide engineering support for cathodic protection, defect assessment and repairs of gas transmission pipelines and update procedures where necessary.
  • Analyze metallurgical anomalies in pipeline systems 
  • Supervise and coordinate NDE, In-Situ Field Testing
  • Maintain register of existing pipelines and corresponding linear attributes.
  • Identification of pipeline risk and development of long term and short-term mitigation strategies based on risk management and risk modeling utilizing PHA, LOPA, QRA and other risk analysis tools and models. 
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPI) related to critical asset classes and perform regulatory reporting on pipeline assets.
  • Perform Project development, management, Cost estimating and tracking, project close out associated with IMP Program. 
  • Provide assistance in records review, DOT and other compliance related report preparation.
  • Perform class location studies and HCA and MCA determinations.
  • Able to travel overnight outside of normal work area and work overtime including nights/weekends/holidays on a regular basis.
  • Must be available to respond to transmission emergencies (On-Call).

Qualifications

  • ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.  
  • Position aligns closest to Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical or Material Science Engineering discipline
  • EIT/FE Certification preferred 
  • 1+ years of gas-related experience preferred
  • Must be able to participate in Ops Qual certification program at the supervisor level 
  • Must be able to supervise field operations on gas facilities
  • AWS certification preferred
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection experience or NACE certification preferred
  • Knowledge of Risk Management, Risk Assessment, and Risk Mitigation preferred
  • Knowledge of mapping systems experience preferred, especially with GIS (Smallworld, ESRI, Arc-Fm; Arc-GIS) 
  • Knowledge with pipeline assessment methods: External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) & Inline Inspection (ILI) is preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
  • Must be able to supervise management, bargaining unit employees and external contractors

$97,000 - $114,000 a year
