Position
We are seeking a dependable, experienced Phlebotomist for a full-time day shift role. You will play a key part in accurate specimen collection and transport while providing exceptional patient care. This position requires confident, independent work, daily driving using your personal vehicle, and comfort with processing specimens in non-clinical settings, including patient homes and vehicles.
Candidates are required to clock in and out daily at our Draper laboratory.
Description
Full-time, W2, based in Draper/Salt Lake City, UT area.
Tentative start date: when the right fit is identified.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Full-time, averaging 30–40 hours/week
Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection per established protocols
- Accurately input and verify patient/specimen data using a tablet (smartphones not permitted for patient data)
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and transport of specimens, including use of a mobile centrifuge
- Follow the proper order of draw and assist with specimen processing
- Travel between patient locations using your personal vehicle
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow infection control protocols
- Provide compassionate, respectful patient interactions in diverse settings, including homes and tight spaces
- Follow chain-of-custody and specimen integrity procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all documentation and communications
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, lab staff, and clinics
- Adapt to route or schedule changes and handle last-minute adjustments professionally
- Maintain and replenish mobile phlebotomy supplies
- Perform daily vehicle safety checks
- Follow all safety, regulatory, and infection control guidelines
- Support cross-training efforts and assist with special assignments as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Active and valid phlebotomy certification for the state of Utah
- At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience outside of training or donation centers (inpatient or geriatric population strongly preferred)
- Reliable personal vehicle for daily use on the job
- Valid auto insurance and a clean driving record
- Comfortable working independently and processing specimens (centrifuge use) in your vehicle
- Comfortable drawing blood in non-clinical settings such as patient homes and tight spaces
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs (coolers, supplies, centrifuge)
- Proficiency in pediatric, geriatric, capillary, and venipuncture collections
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Professionalism in diverse patient and facility settings
- Familiarity with HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols
- Comfort using routing apps and mobile technology
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
All positions require time zone awareness, including the impact of daylight saving time, as we are a multi-state organization with teams and partners across different U.S. time zones. Clear communication and timely coordination are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in mobile phlebotomy or home health
- Knowledge of the order of draw and standard collection protocols
- Familiarity with phlebotomy equipment (ETS, butterfly systems)
- Experience with specimen processing and laboratory workflows
- Interest in long-term growth or cross-training opportunities
Job Type:
Full-time, W2
Salary & Compensation:
- $19.00 – $22.00/hour, DOE (set by hiring manager)
- Plus Mileage reimbursement at the IRS standard rate
