About the role
Definition
The employee provides special education services to students in the student’s natural environment (i.e., home, private daycare centers, Head Start). The employee serves as a case manager for assigned students and is responsible for developing and implementing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) as well as completing the Child Outcome Summary Form (COSF).
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides direct special education services to students with various disabilities. These services are to be provided in a variety of settings including the home, private daycare centers, and local Head Start centers. • Employs a variety of teaching methods and strategies to meet the needs of the students. • Serves as the case manager for all assigned students. • Provides consultation with childcare providers and Head Start teachers regarding students’ specialized needs. • Travels between locations where services are being provided. • Prepares and implements IEPs for all assigned students. • Develops IEPs for all assigned students. • Monitors student progress on a continuous basis. • Provides quarterly written progress notes to parents. • Maintains records and complies with laws, rules, and regulations. • Ability to compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for EC services. • Ability to gather and record data on student progress toward academic or behavioral goals on the IEP. • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. • Ability to manage student behavior. (s) • Ability to consult with parents, teachers, and the community to enhance the learning of students. • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using prescribed format. • Ability to interact within the educational environment. • Preparation and maintenance of accurate EC child count data in a timely manner. • Updates and maintains data in the current student management system. • Provides consultations with parents/guardians that includes coaching activities for students’ educational needs. • Creates learning materials that meet the needs of your students. • Ability to co-treat with Related Service Providers (OT, PT, VI, HI, etc.) • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for EC services. • Ability to gather and record data on student progress toward academic or behavioral goals on the IEP. • Preparation and maintenance of accurate EC student count data in a timely manner. • Adept at the preparation and implementation of IEPs. • Updates and maintains data in the current student management system. • Valid Driver’s License and working vehicle. • Time Management. • Organizational skills. • Ed plan. • Ability to write an IEP. • Ability to conduct IEP team meetings.
Physical Requirements
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (B-K) • Minimum of five successful years of classroom experience
