Poultry Picking Room Associate

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible for operating stunner, scalder and picking equipment ensuring poultry exiting live hang processes through equipment correctly.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:       

• Monitor and adjust settings and maintain salt levels in stunner to ensure optimal performance
• Maintain correct temperature and water levels in scalder to ensure proper functioning
• Adjust pickers to remove feathers from poultry while minimizing broken wings
• Perform and document wing breakage checks, including live cages a minimum of three (3) times per week
• Monitor paw cutting/ picking system, adjust as necessary to ensure paws are cut
• Follow all safety initiatives, (i.e. wear appropriate PPE in area where mandatory)  helping to maintain a zero accident culture
• Perform all work in compliance with company, regulatory bodies, animal welfare policies and guidelines and Federal, State and local legal requirements
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Bi-lingual ability preferred, but not required
• Ability to communicate in and comprehend English
• Basic computer and math skills

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

• Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
• Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory
• Lock Out Tag Out training / certification will be required if replacing picker fingers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work in a hot or cold and wet environment
• Ability to stand for an 8 hour shift
• Ability to work non-standard hours (holidays, weekends and extended shifts) as needed
• Able to periodically lift 25 lbs
