Lead Medical Clinical Associate - IMA Nursing - MSH - FT M-TH 12:30PM-8:30PM, Fri 10AM-6PM, Alt. Sat 8AM-4PM

Through the performance of a variety of technical and routine tasks, the Lead Medical Clinical Associate contributes to patient care in an ambulatory setting, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and within the policies of the Department of Nursing and The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist Clinical Nurse Manager/ Designee
    • Responsible for disseminating information to (employees of same title) in their firm or area.
    • Act as a resource and support to the manager in problem solving.
    • Communicate issues of concern for the firm or area to the Manager.
  2. Assists in patient care by performing the following:
    • Obtains and records vital signs.
    • Collects and processes blood, urine, sputum and stool specimens.
    • Reports changes in patient parameters or unusual values to the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
    • Provides assistance with procedures such as stocking exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
    • Assists in the collection of screening data, i.e., personal data, chief complaints, past, present, family and social history.
    • Collects specimens for selected tests that assist with diagnosis treatment:  urine pregnancy tests, throat cultures, and hemocult.
    • Participates with follow-up of abnormal lab data as directed by the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
    • Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control, including the use of protective gear.
    • Assists with the procurement of equipment and supplies.
    • Orients patients to ambulatory clinic policies and procedures.
  3. Communicates in a clear, concise manner
    • Handles all information in accordance with patient confidentiality regulations.
    • Treats patients with empathy and impartiality.
    • Is open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experience of other people and promotes an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
    • Communicates in a courteous and positive manner.
    • Relates positively to patients, family and staff within the organization.
    • Gives verbal reports to designated RNs and/or MDs.
    • Reports all problems to Clinical Nurse Manager.
  4. Maintains competence in various tasks, skills, concepts and functions.
    • Attends JCAHO and mandatory in service and educational programs within the department and hospital.
    • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures and practices.
    • Participates actively in unit based interdisciplinary meetings.
    • Participates in projects and programs carried out within the department.
    • Adheres to The Mount Sinai Hospital dress code.
    • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of medical records.
    • Participates in the continuous quality improvement activities of the unit.
    • Assists in the operational functioning of the unit by insuring inventory needs of equipment and supplies.
    • Locates resources and information for patients and family.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent

Associate Preferred

 

Experience Requirements

Prefer experience in a medical office or acute care setting.

 

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable) 

Certificate as Medical Office Assistant preferred.

Compensation Statement

 

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $25.07 - $27.53 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
