We have an opportunity for a Principal Software Project Engineer to join our RIU (Radio Interface Unit) team which is part of the Datalink Products organization in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will be leading the development, certification, and sustainment of safety-critical DO-178 DAL A commercial, business, and military RIU solutions. In this role, you will guide a team of talented engineers, ensuring our solutions meet the highest standards of quality and safety. You will have an opportunity to work with various customers like Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer as well as other domains within the Collins Avionics organization.   

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Lead Projects: You will serve as the Software Project Engineer, supplying Project Management, technical direction during all phases of the programs from pursuit through sustainment. You will be responsible for the Project management and execution, maintaining the financials, TPR reporting, and schedule management. 

  • Lead Certification audits: You will lead certification activities with the Internal Certification office, and external customer audits. 

  • Process Consistency: You will ensure consistency with the Collins Aerospace Technical processes and the Certification Processes for a TSO product. 

  • Guide Teams: You will lead a wide range of entry-level to highly experienced engineers. 

  • Communicate Effectively: You will communicate technical progress, risks, opportunities, financials, and other project management metrics clearly and concisely. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:   

  • Certification Processes: You will gain in-depth knowledge of Avionics Regulatory and certification requirements and processes. 

  • Technical Expertise: You will enhance your technical skills in processing platforms and associated technologies. 

  • Leadership skills: You will develop your ability to lead and manage software development teams, making impactful decisions and solving complex problems. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE: 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience. 

  • 5+ years of software engineering project management. 

  • 5+ years of experience in Development of Safety critical Avionics software. 

  • Experience with Avionics regulatory and Certification requirements and processes such as TSO, DO-178 B/C, DO-160. 

  • Experience with DOORS, Jama, Jira, Confluence, Mic
