VP, Data Science

Job Description:
Role Summary
Reports to: EVP, Data Experience
Lead Dentsu’s measurement and marketing science capability across MMM, RBA, incrementality, forecasting, and market design. You will own the science and partner closely on the product—developing and validating models (Meridian, Bayesian methods) and collaborating with AI Agent Developers and Data Architecture teams to deploy these models as scalable, client‑facing solutions.
Think in products, deliver through collaboration. The team already operates mature MMM workflows and deployed AI tools serving clients. This role expands their impact, advances methodological rigor, and builds the next generation of measurement products. You will help attract and develop data scientists who combine strong methodology with a product mindset, building a team that strengthens Dentsu’s edge in applied measurement science.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the strategic direction for measurement science across MMM, RBA, incrementality, forecasting, and market design—establishing clear methodology standards for the practice.
- Lead a team of six (1 onshore Director and 5 offshore Data Scientists), recruiting and developing talent with strong product orientation.
- Develop and validate models using Meridian, Bayesian methods, and custom approaches, partnering with AI Agents to make them agentic and efficient to run via MLflow on Databricks.
- Drive the 3rd‑party Agentic Analytics platform strategy, including client pilots, GTM recommendations, and training for Media Effectiveness teams.
- Build the intelligence layer powering Decisioning’s agentic data products—partnering with Data Architecture on pipeline dependencies and with AI Agents on conversational and automated interfaces.
- Serve as the senior measurement expert to clients, translating complex model outputs into actionable recommendations that guide media investment.
- Represent Dentsu’s measurement science capability through external thought leadership and client presentations.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in data science, econometrics, or quantitative marketing with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Expert knowledge of marketing mix modeling, results‑based attribution, causal inference, and Bayesian statistical methods.
- Proven track record building and scaling data science teams (5+ direct or indirect reports).
- Experience translating advanced measurement methods into client‑facing products and business recommendations.
- Deep proficiency in Python and modern ML/statistical tooling (e.g., PyMC, Stan, scikit‑learn).
- Experience in media agencies, adtech, or marketing analytics in senior roles.
- Strong communication skills for C‑suite and senior leadership interactions.
- Experience partnering cross‑functionally with engineering, product, and media strategy teams.
- Experience with MLflow for experiment tracking, model versioning, and production lifecycle management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Meridian or contributions to open‑source measurement frameworks.
- Background deploying models as automated or self‑service products (APIs, agentic interfaces).
- Experience managing offshore or distributed teams across time zones.
- Familiarity with Databricks, MLOps practices, and cloud‑based ML infrastructure.
- Published research or external thought leadership in measurement science.
- Experience with media effectiveness tools (e.g., Nielsen, IRI, Kantar).
