Job Summary: 

• Perform accounting, analysis and reporting for capital projects and fixed assets of NRG Inc and its affiliates.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform the accounting, processing, and analysis of fixed assets.
• Perform fixed asset accounting functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely general ledger month end close of NRG Energy Inc.  Duties will include calculation of monthly depreciation, capitalization of CIP projects and retirements; preparation of necessary journal entries and posting thereof in the accounting system.
• Reconcile fixed assets accounts to general ledger on monthly basis.
• Account for Asset Retirement Obligations under ASC 410.
• Review projects for proper capital vs. expense classification.
• Support the Corporate Tax group with the annual property tax filings.
• Liaison with generation operations and accounting group to facilitate CIP reviews and month end close tasks.
• Assist with external and internal audit requests.
• Report monthly variance on capital expenditures to FP&A and Operations group.
• Prepare depreciation forecast for NRG and its affiliates.
• Preparation of monthly/quarterly fixed assets schedule for the company in accordance with GAAP and company fixed assets policy.
• Provide support on technical accounting issues.
• Provide assistance with special projects as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

• Open office environment, hybrid schedule 3-4 days in the office, 1-2 days remote from home.
• Some overtime required during close cycle and for special projects.
• Minimal travel required.

 

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.  Three to five years of experience in general accounting and finance.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to identify areas for process improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers.
• Ability to work independently in team oriented culture.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work remotely or in office environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with SAP, HFM and Microsoft Office Excel and other Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
