About the role

Description

The Department of English, in the College of Arts and Sciences, at Texas A&M University invites applicants for a full-time 9-month appointment as an Assistant Professor of Asian American Literature and Culture, to begin in Fall 2026.

 

We welcome all qualified candidates whose research and teaching represent an expansive vision of Asian American Studies as an interdisciplinary, comparative, and transnational field. Candidates who can help build existing departmental strengths in gender and sexuality studies, health humanities and disability studies, and/or environmental humanities are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda, contribute to the department’s teaching mission (standard teaching load is 2 courses per semester), and fulfill service duties at the departmental, university, and disciplinary levels.

 

Texas A&M’s Department of English is home to an undergraduate major and minor; minors in health humanities, professional writing, and science fiction studies; as well as M.A. and Ph.D. programs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the College of Arts and Sciences’ interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, Digital Humanities, Latino/a and Mexican-American Studies, and Women’s & Gender Studies. Texas A&M University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a First-Gen Forward institution. Texas A&M is also home to the nationally recognized Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research, and the newly revamped Race and Ethnic Studies Institute. Texas A&M’s Cushing Memorial Library houses a rich collection of manuscripts pertaining to Asian and Asian American communities, histories, and cultural practices. Furthermore, the department’s PhD program attracts a number of students with research interests in Korean and Korean Diasporic Literatures and Cultures. 

 

The English Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to and implement curricula and programs responsive to the needs of all members of the university community.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, American Studies, or related field, evidence of teaching experience, and a strong record of publications.
