Based in Louisville, KY ControlTouch Systems, LLC is a controls engineering and design firm specializing in control system integration and industrial automation in the baggage handling industry. We are experiencing exponential growth and are seeking individuals with the drive to exceed expectations to join our team as a Project Technical Writer.
JOB SUMMARY:
The core purpose of the Technical Writer is for the preparation, review, revision, professional formatting and maintenance of technical documents including systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation for various automation projects. A technical background with ability to take direction from technically minded engineers and creating documentation templates that allows for gained efficiency from job to job.
This role works on all phases of documentation under the general direction of the Project Managers or direct manager. Baggage Handling industry experience, knowledge of airport operations, and/or PGDS standard guidelines is preferred to apply concepts based on engineering drawings, technical engineering information, consultations with subject matter experts, and other resources to learn about specific products or processes. The documented deliverables should communicate complex technical information more easily according to company standards and contract specifications.
This role also maintains current internal company documentation and Knowledge Base library content (through SharePoint). These deliverables are accomplished through use of multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Use of the appropriate Document Management System (DMS) and helps ensure defined standards are consistently applied by the project team.
· Drives own empowerment within role authorization to manage the work according to organizational standards.
· Ability to prioritize and manage documentation requirements across multiple projects.
· Accountable for overall Technical Documentation results.
· Performs contract reading and derives actions for documentation obligations.
· Documents and reports all work results according to defined standards.
· Manages customer documentation requirements and helps team resolve issues.
· Clarifies customer targets, requirements per contract specifications.
· Participates in lessons learned activities and feeds the results to project and relevant parties.
· Pro-active in notifying the internal customer, management, and/or team of changes.
· Effectively coordinates and communicates with the subject experts in Engineering and Field to Operations to meet required deadlines.
· Actively collaborates with the Engineering and Field Operations
· Other coordination responsibilities as needed.

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to read and understand documentation requirements as specified or described in the contract and create the documents in a timely manner meeting or exceeding milestone dates.
- Ability to create a process of gaining and understanding the information required for the development of required project documents from specifications as well as reviewing drawings and technical conversations with engineers.
- Ability to understand assignments and meet or beat budgeted hours for each deliverable and report percent complete in an earned vs burned format.
- Ability to travel to customer facilities as needed and work non-business hours based on project delivery commitments and customer needs.
- Is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of performing work that is reliable, accurate and thoroughly self-verified.
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures related to technical writing.
- Proficient in Adobe or similar software
