Position Summary
The Genetic Insights Group is a team of biologists, machine learning engineers, and clinical geneticists who develop tools to define variant effects. We are hiring a Research Scientist for functional assay development to support the Cellular Evidence Platform (CEP), a quantitative, scalable, and mechanistic assay that generates novel insight into how genetic variation may impact human health. The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in functional genomics in mammalian systems, proficiency with handling, processing, and interpreting large bioinformatic datasets, an enthusiasm for working in collaborative and cross-disciplinary environments, and a strong interest in applying the power of genetics to advance personalized medicine.
Responsibilities:
Foster a continually developing understanding of the practice and promise of functional variant modeling
Execute the CEP workflow, including variant library cloning, cell engineering, single-cell capture and cDNA synthesis, library preparation and sequencing, and data processing
Creatively troubleshoot challenges with the experimental platform
Collaborate with a cross-functional group of scientists, bioinformaticians, software engineers, and product managers
Contribute to the management and maintenance of the research and tissue culture labs
Communicate results to project leaders
Maintain detailed and organized records within our ELN
Requirements:
PhD degree in biological science
Technical knowledge of human genetics, next generation sequencing, and bioinformatics
Deep domain expertise in next-generation sequencing applications, especially scRNA-seq, as well as first-hand experience with multiple sequencing platforms (i.e., Illumina and PacBio)
Command of all standard molecular biology procedures, including recombinant DNA technologies, cloning, microbiology, and the manipulation and quantification of gene expression
Bioinformatic skills sufficient for running the scripts that transfer and process large datasets
Preferred Qualifications:
Meticulous, creative and independent scientist with a proven track record of applying functional genomics technologies in mammalian cell systems
Exceptional capabilities in mammalian tissue culture. Experience includes human iPSCs and immune cell types.
Ability to use Python to run and debug bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell data analysis
Effective communication and presentation skills within the project team and to stakeholders
Dedicated commitment to advancing our multidisciplinary team’s objectives
