Position Summary

The Genetic Insights Group is a team of biologists, machine learning engineers, and clinical geneticists who develop tools to define variant effects.  We are hiring a Research Scientist for functional assay development to support the Cellular Evidence Platform (CEP), a quantitative, scalable, and mechanistic assay that generates novel insight into how genetic variation may impact human health.  The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in functional genomics in mammalian systems, proficiency with handling, processing, and interpreting large bioinformatic datasets, an enthusiasm for working in collaborative and cross-disciplinary environments, and a strong interest in applying the power of genetics to advance personalized medicine. 


Responsibilities:

  • Foster a continually developing understanding of the practice and promise of functional variant modeling

  • Execute the CEP workflow, including variant library cloning, cell engineering, single-cell capture and cDNA synthesis, library preparation and sequencing, and data processing

  • Creatively troubleshoot challenges with the experimental platform  

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional group of scientists, bioinformaticians, software engineers, and product managers

  • Contribute to the management and maintenance of the research and tissue culture labs

  • Communicate results to project leaders

  • Maintain detailed and organized records within our ELN
     

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in biological science 

  • Technical knowledge of human genetics, next generation sequencing, and bioinformatics

  • Deep domain expertise in next-generation sequencing applications, especially scRNA-seq, as well as first-hand experience with multiple sequencing platforms (i.e., Illumina and PacBio)

  • Command of all standard molecular biology procedures, including recombinant DNA technologies, cloning, microbiology, and the manipulation and quantification of gene expression

  • Bioinformatic skills sufficient for running the scripts that transfer and process large datasets
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Meticulous, creative and independent scientist with a proven track record of applying functional genomics technologies in mammalian cell systems 

  • Exceptional capabilities in mammalian tissue culture.  Experience includes human iPSCs and immune cell types. 

  • Ability to use Python to run and debug bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell data analysis

  • Effective communication and presentation skills within the project team and to stakeholders

  • Dedicated commitment to advancing our multidisciplinary team’s objectives

  

Pay Range: $130k - $150k annual salary (USD)

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. 

The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.
