Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope:

As an Automation Engineering Intern, you will work hand in hand with automation engineers to develop, implement, monitor, and improve automation equipment and automated manufacturing lines. You will lead an automation project focused on improvement of an existing process as well as assist in other automation projects using a mix of the following: 3D simulation modeling, Robot programming/editing, mechanical design upgrades, 3D modeling of components, project management, process improvement, installation, etc.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and understand the process flow of automated manufacturing lines
  • Lead a project to improve an automated manufacturing line or manufacturing cell within an automated manufacturing line
  • Identify process/equipment and procedural opportunities to improve performance.
  • Develop a simulation model accurately representing the automated lines and its capabilities
  • Developing hardware and tooling as well as testing new assemblies to improve overall process of automation equipment
  • Run experiments to analyze the lines/cells to identify areas for improvement

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing an Undergraduate degree or higher in Mechanical, Mechatronics or related engineering field
  • “Hands on” experience solving problems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Results-oriented

 

Desired Skills:

  • Prior automation related internship
  • AutoCAD experience
  • 3D Modeling experience
  • FEA and Simulation programing
  • Experience with logistics system simulation software
  • Familiarity with coding (PLC, robot, or software)
  • Familiar with industrial automation and design
  • Experience dealing with suppliers
  • Basic statistical understanding

 

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.  

 

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
