Coastal Hospice invites you to join and lead a team of caregivers who are committed to promoting dignity and quality of life for patients and families who face life-limiting conditions. In your role as Inpatient Unit Team Leader at our Macky & Pam Stansell House in Berlin/Ocean Pines, you will:

  • Participate in management team and assists in administration.
  • Ensure a consistent high quality hospice experience for each patient and family served by facilitating comprehensive patient care planning and monitoring performance of individual team members.
  • Supervise interdisciplinary team members operationally and administratively, facilitating efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Lead IDT meetings and facilitate care planning by ensuring opportunity for all disciplines to engage in the care planning process. Oversee documentation of the IDG meeting.
  • Confer with appropriate members of the IDG regarding referrals, changes in patient level of care, contemplated discharges, patient hospitalizations, and any other significant patient changes in a timely manner.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train staff members in collaboration with discipline-specific clinical experts.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews timely and effectively.
  • Conduct, counsel, and take appropriate disciplinary action in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Assure nursing documentation is complete and timely in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of protocols, policies, and procedures related to patient care and organizational goals.
  • Identify learning needs of staff and provides educational resources to meet employee needs. Serve as a resource and mentor to staff.
  • Cooperate with other leaders throughout the agency to assure program needs are met and resources are used effectively. Identify and involve all stakeholders in the decision making process and communicates proactively.
  • Ensure department financial goals are met by managing to the Coastal Hospice model.
  • Ensure department and organizational QAPI goals are met.
  • Accountable for meeting patient care needs 24/7 via appropriate scheduling and delegation to members of the IDT.
  • Assure smooth unit functioning by:
    • Scheduling appropriate nursing and aide staffing levels to meet unit needs.
    • Oversight of adequate inventory of medical supplies, equipment and linen.
    • Maintaining effective professional relationships with hospitals, physicians and other health care providers.
    • Assuring documentation o IDT members is complete and timely in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
    • Maintaining safe physical environment according to unit needs and regulatory standards.
  • Provide care to hospice patients in an inpatient setting, as needed.
  • Share in responsibility for management/leadership on call 24/7.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse from the State of Maryland or participating Compact state, BSN preferred
  • Two (2) years of management experience
