Reporting into the Associate CMO, the Virta Medical Group is searching for a physician leader to lead and mentor a team of 8-10 physicians and nurse practitioners, while seeing a part-time panel of Virta patients. The goal of the Virta Medical Group is to provide exemplary clinical care to our members while partnering with our counterparts in the Virta Health Corporation. This leader will manage the people and processes on their team to achieve the practice’s goal efficiently and effectively. The team leader does this by:
Providing quality oversight for medical care delivery
Supporting effective growth of the medical staff and the professional development of the VMS members whom they lead
Fostering effective collaboration with key departments
Leading strategic clinical initiatives
Responsibilities
The physician in this role will lead by example, seeing a panel of Virta patients and helping the physicians and nurse practitioners on her/his team improve the quality of care they provide to Virta patients. Specific responsibilities include:
Quality Oversight for Medical Care Delivery
Follow up and execute on improving workflows critical for safety and efficacy
Monitoring of quality and safety
Monthly review of clinician quality and efficiency metrics with team members
Clinical QA of team members (and others’) clinical performance
Growth and Development of team member
Develop a highly functional team of clinicians, further preparing high performers for leadership roles, while working proactively to performance manage those not meeting expectations
Manage clinicians on your team, with responsibilities to include:
Oversee onboarding of new physicians and NPs joining the team.
Regularly connect via 1:1 meetings with team members to discuss challenges, ideas for improvement, provide feedback
Regular virtual and occasional in-person team meetings to build cohesion and advance common projects
Review of quarterly cross-team feedback
Semiannual performance reviews
Foster Effective Collaboration
Participate in regular reviews of clinical events
Work collaboratively with other team members matrixed or directly reporting to their team, including RNs and other team members.
Responsible for keeping the other team members connected to the team and the Virta mission/company.
Biweekly review of intake quality and patient feedback as appropriate
Recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members
Lead Strategic Initiatives
Lead strategic initiatives across Virta within a specific clinical program area.
Virta Clinical Initiatives: A key component of the role is to lead clinical initiatives critical to the delivery of great patient care and the execution of the business. Leaders are expected to lead initiatives within the clinical team and then to collaborate across Virta in order to assure initiative success.
Must-Haves
MD or DO degree with at least one active state medical license.
Board Certified in an ABMS specialty, such as endocrinology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or family practice.
2+ years in a management role where you directly people-manage physicians or APPs, hiring them, firing them, writing performance reviews, etc. Physicians without direct people management experience will not be considered for this role.
Experience managing clinical and business metrics, including quality, clinical outcomes, and productivity.
Experience in a growth-stage organization or similar environment is preferred.
Strong communication, collaboration, and team-building skills.
Comfortable managing a panel of patients with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity.
