Summary

CHS Inc. has an exciting senior leadership opportunity in our Ag retail division. We are looking for a Senior Director of Operations/GM to lead our CHS Primeland business unit. Located in Idaho and Washington, with the main headquarters in Lewiston, ID.  You will work with the local Producer Board, need to have basic financial acumen, planning, business process controls, as well as have supervisory, public relations and organizational skills to manage the total operation. You must be able to make decisions, work both independently and collaboratively, and be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. CHS Primeland is a diverse cooperative covering Western Idaho and Eastern Washington with over 20 locations and includes Grain, Agronomy, Energy, and Retail Farm stores.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the business unit operation according to company objectives to provide patrons with prompt, courteous and effective service while maintaining the efficiency necessary to achieve a maximum margin of profit.
  • Establish and implement short-term goals that are consistent with long-range plans for growth in operation, including facility, equipment and personnel.
  • Promote and drive a program of safety and equipment maintenance to avoid breakdowns and limit safety hazards.  Operate in compliance with all company safety policies.
  • Conduct ongoing communication with the local Producer Board, senior management, and appropriate divisional personnel.
  • Communicate with business unit management and staff to coordinate and complete all aspects of the consolidated operation.
  • Work collaboratively with CHS Enterprise product lines for maximum value return for the CHS organization.
  • Work collaboratively with trading and go-to-market teams to monitor the daily long/short position for fertilizer, grain, and energy to effectively control market and inventory risk and monitor handling, storage, and transportation capabilities.
  • Utilize team / personnel within business unit to maximize profitability for the Co-op as a company.
  • Educate both employees and patrons in the operations of the Co-op’s business objectives to enhance employee effectiveness and improve customer relations.
  • Manage the region’s workforce through responsible training and clear job assignment definition and explanation, including organizational chart, job descriptions, and regular employee reviews (annual).
  • Monitor the work of all employees to correct deficient performance and effectively reward and develop all employees.
  • Oversee the administration of company policies and procedures to ensure our promise of helping our owners grow is fulfilled.
  • Engage and review the information provided for month-end close, inventory valuation, bringing contracts to market, physical inventory, freight, etc.
  • Support implementation of credit in accordance with company credit policies and support the collection efforts of accounts receivable.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends or changes to accurately answer patron inquiries. Work extended hours as needed to meet business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 10+ years of experience in Operations and/or Business Operations
  • Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities

Additional Qualifications

  • Agriculture retail experience in Operations or Sales/Marketing/Merchandising
  • Ability to make decisions and work effectively both independently and with a team
  • Detail oriented with strong communication skills, both verbal and written with an ability to influence others
  • Possess strong negotiation, public relations and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business or Agriculture related program
  • Co-op experience preferred
