Senior Systems Engineer

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Systems Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

 

The Senior Systems Engineer provides advanced engineering expertise for the design, integration, implementation, and sustainment of complex IT systems in support of DoD operations. This role focuses on infrastructure modernization, automation, system security, and high-availability operations. The engineer will work closely with cybersecurity, network, and software teams to ensure performance, security, and compliance.

 

Responsibilities:

• Lead architecture, design, and integration of enterprise IT systems (on-prem, virtualized, or cloud-hosted)
• Implement and maintain infrastructure solutions for Windows, Linux, and VMware platforms
• Ensure systems meet DoD cybersecurity standards including STIGs and RMF controls
• Support configuration management, baseline documentation, and system lifecycle plans
• Collaborate on automation efforts using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and tools like Ansible
• Provide tier III/IV support for escalated system issues, outages, and patching operations
• Participate in COOP/DR planning and execution
• Mentor junior and journeyman system engineers
• Interface with stakeholders for technical briefings, system accreditation, and solution design

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information System, Engineering or related field
• 10+ years of systems engineering or administration experience supporting DoD or enterprise environments
• Expert-level experience with Microsoft Windows Server or Red Hat Linux
• Strong knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter
• Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, and authentication services
• Familiarity with RMF, STIGs, and DoD security standards

Desired:

• Master’s degree in related field
• Experience supporting classified DoD systems and enclaves
• Automation skills in PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
• Strong documentation and change management discipline
• Familiarity with enterprise monitoring (SCOM, Nagios, SolarWinds)
• CISSP, CASP+, or CISM
• RHCSA or RHCE
• ITIL v4 Foundations

Clearance:

• Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

Certification:

• DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
• CompTIA Security +
• Microsoft AZ-104 or VMware VCP
