Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Preventative Maintenance Technician

Location: Winston-Salem Cable Plant

Employee Type: Full Time Employee – Non-Exempt Hourly

 

Major Responsibilities

• Perform root cause analysis of breakdowns and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare written maintenance instructions, records, and procedures.
• Maintain accurate and timely records in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) “Maximo”.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Perform rebuild on bench top equipment such as heat treatment systems.
• Perform tasks as assigned by the Lead Preventative Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Supervisor/Coordinators.

 

Skills/Characteristics Desired

• Self-motivated.
• Strong and systematic analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• In-depth understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
• Thorough working knowledge of electrical, mechanical systems.
• Experience with LOTO and electrical safety.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Experience in the use of hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and machine shop equipment.
• Good communication skills.
• Accuracy, attention to details, and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to react positively to rapidly changing priorities.
• Capable of independently managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
• Demonstrated initiative and an eagerness to drive continuous improvement.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

• Candidate will perform hands on preventative maintenance on process equipment supporting the cabling process equipment at the plant.  
• Candidate will assist in determining what spare parts are required on hand for that equipment. 
• Candidate will write and execute preventive maintenance procedures and schedules for that equipment.
• Main point of contact for communication with operations for duration of PM’s.
• Coordination of materials and parts needed to complete the PM’s.
• Give direction and delegate task to junior PM team members.
• The Subject Matter Expert for process equipment PM procedures and rebuilds for heat treatment system, capstan roller racks, skaltek tire assembly, gear boxes, UV power supplies and irradiator systems.
