Position Purpose: The essential function of the MPRD sports official is to officiate youth and/or adult games, events, and tournaments to maintain standards of play for applicable competitions facilitated through the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department. 

Job Duties

• Officiate MPRD Flag Football games.
• Attend sport-specific trainings and meetings.
• Make judgements and instruct players on the rules of the game.
• Provide communication to and from coaches and participants.
• Inspect sporting equipment and/or examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, department personnel and the public, and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Maintain a safe and positive playing environment.
• Concentrate and clearly communicate in situations with multiple distractions.
• Effectively communicate principles of good sportsmanship
• Other duties assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Additional Qualifications

• Ability to learn sport rules and regulations.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of and experience with adult/youth sports, game rules, and regulations. 

Other Information

• This is not a KPERS covered position.
• Seasonal position: Late August until Early November.
