The Role:
Morningstar Retirement is seeking a VP of Internal Sales and Support to lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of internal sales professionals. This role is responsible for driving sales enablement, supporting external sales functions, and serving as a subject matter expert (SME) across the full suite of Morningstar Retirement products and capabilities.
This individual will collaborate closely with distribution leadership, relationship managers, product management, and marketing to ensure sales teams are fully equipped with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to grow Morningstar’s retirement solutions business. This individual will combine strategic leadership with hands-on expertise to strengthen client relationships, improve sales effectiveness, and position Morningstar as a trusted retirement partner.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of internal sales representatives and support staff.
- Establish performance metrics, provide ongoing feedback, and create career development pathways.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Sales Support & Enablement
- Partner with external sales leadership to align internal sales strategies with distribution goals.
- Provide proactive and reactive support to external wholesalers and relationship managers.
- Oversee development of sales tools, presentations, and resources to drive client engagement.
Subject Matter Expertise
- Serve as the internal and external SME on Morningstar Retirement’s products, services, and capabilities.
- Educate internal stakeholders, partners, and clients on retirement plan products, investment strategies, and industry trends.
- Ensure team proficiency in compliance, regulatory requirements, and product positioning.
Collaboration & Strategy
- Work cross-functionally with product, marketing, and operations teams to optimize go-to-market efforts.
- Provide feedback from the field to inform product development and enhancements.
- Contribute to strategic planning and execution of growth initiatives for Morningstar Retirement.
Operational Excellence
- Implement best practices, processes, and technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Monitor and report on team performance, pipeline activity, and sales outcomes.
- Drive a client-first mindset to ensure exceptional service delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 10+ years of experience in financial services, with at least 5 years in sales leadership (retirement industry experience strongly preferred).
- Deep knowledge of retirement plan products, distribution channels, and regulatory environment.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.
