About the role

Description

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) full-time Lecturer (Non-Tenure track) position in Classics (with a focus on Linguistics) with a 9-month academic appointment beginning in fall 2026.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four (3-4) courses per semester, and those classes include Classics, as well as courses in Italian, Global Studies, and Linguistics, from the Beginning to the Advanced level, and to contribute to program building and academic service appropriate to the mission of the department and university. Depending on program needs, there may also be opportunity to teach additional courses and serve on graduate committees.

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures offers degrees/programs in modern languages and Classics, and graduate degrees in Hispanic Studies, in addition to offering undergraduate minors in African Studies, Religious Studies, and Jewish Studies. Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have a PhD in Greek Linguistics. Candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of teaching in higher education.
  2. Candidates must be able to teach at the undergraduate level in the following fields:
    • Greek
    • Latin
    • Classics
    • Italian
    • Linguistics
    • Global Studies (Languages of the World and Global Writing Systems)
  3. Candidates must be qualified to teach and mentor graduate students in linguistics.
  4. Candidates must have specialization in the following subfields:
    • Greek language and linguistics (Mycenean to Modern, including dialects)
    • Languages of ancient Italy and Sicily, e.g. Latin, Messapic, Oscan, Punic
    • Historical (socio)linguistics, and pragmatics
    • Language contact and multilingualism in the ancient and modern Mediterranean
    • Romance linguistics and Italian dialectology
