Description
The Department of Nutrition, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one full-time, tenured position in pediatric nutrition with a 9-month academic appointment. The anticipated start date of this position is April 1, 2025. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Professor and Director of the Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA), depending on qualifications.
Academic and Departmental Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Nutrition as decided upon in consultation with the department head of Nutrition.
- Participate as a regular faculty member in Departmental activities.
- Mentor and train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in your research program.
- Service to the department, college, university and the general public as part of the ongoing mission of a land grant institution.
- Coordinate with broad-based partners and stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Other duties as required.
Director of the Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA) Responsibilities:
- Development and actualization of vision and mission statements for the IHA.
- Development of collaborative relationships and opportunities for members of IHA that enhance teaching, research, and extension missions.
- Leadership for acquisition of internal and external resources that support the mission of the IHA.
- Build partnerships with industries in the food, agriculture, technology, and health care spaces.
- Maintain a vibrant, extramurally funded and internationally recognized research program.
- Represent TAMU/TAMUS and IHA to legislative and regulatory agencies as a trusted source of expertise in nutrition, agriculture, and health.
Qualifications
Scholarly accomplishments such as invitations to prestigious panels, publications with high citation indexes, grants funded, serving on editorial boards, and other relevant metrics.
A Ph.D. in Nutrition Science or related field and a minimum of 15 years of post-graduate job-related experience.
Demonstrated experience in managing conflicting interests to achieve accepted practices among groups (e.g., stakeholders; trade associations; state and/or federal agencies; non-governmental organizations).
Nationally (e.g. National Academy of Medicine or Sciences) recognized expertise in nutrition-based health issues or agriculture-related field, with a documented record of distinction.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills, statistical skills, communication skills, leadership skills.
- Experience mentoring graduate students.
- Experience teaching at an academic institution of higher education.
- Interpersonal skills for effective communication with multiple entities.
- Ability to manage and support multidisciplinary and interagency teams.
- Leadership skills.
- Experience in fundraising and grantsmanship.
