Asheville Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We do, however, hold the County contract for animal sheltering. This means that we are the open-admission shelter for all Buncombe County animals.
Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Communications and Marketing is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the organization’s marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities through multiple platforms. All initiatives will be executed to educate the public, increase engagement, and inspire generosity and action.
Schedule: The Senior Manager of Communications and Marketing typically works in the Adoption Center; however, occasional remote work may be arranged with supervisor approval. The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Those hours may be flexible depending upon the needs of the organization and may be outside the normal work week.
Compensation & Benefits: The annual salary range for the Senior Manager of Communications and Marketing is $50,000-$52,000. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Fundraising & Engagement Team to execute donor acquisition and retention strategies through campaign creation, email marketing/newsletters, and direct mail.
- Manage resources and budgets effectively, including external vendors and advertising contracts.
- Manage, update, and edit AHS’ Wordpress website. Include current updates, important notices, and timely responses to issues.
- Collaborate with other members of the Marketing & Communications team and contractors in developing, creating, publishing, and distributing media materials such as event marketing materials, the Annual Impact Report, website pages, print campaigns, store products, etc.
- Oversee strategic social media plan and implement comprehensive key performance indicators for coordinating team members and consult on responses as needed.
- Manage and create requests for graphic design materials to be used throughout AHS.
- Direct the strategic use of various organic and paid acquisition channels related to pay-per-click campaigns, lead generation campaigns, social media, etc.
- Deploy a consistent, excellent brand and user experience throughout our marketing channels.
- Develop methods to monitor marketing efforts and make data-informed decisions.
- Serve as the primary contact for radio, TV stations, Pet Pals, etc. Build relationships with key media outlets and influencers.
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership in the development, maintenance, and execution of an effective crisis management and response plan.
- Develop long-term strategies to support organizational needs such as increasing adoptions, fosters, volunteers, and more.
- Effectively execute the duties of the contract set forth with the Direct Mailing provider (Blue Dawg) and provide content that aligns with our brand voice and values for monthly appeals.
- Create compassionate, transparent, and informative news briefings, press releases, and talking points, and schedule/coordinate all news-related engagements.
- Coordinate and execute newsletters to specified audiences on an agreed-upon schedule.
- Attend weekly Operations Meetings and collaborate with departments to execute and implement beneficial, functioning, and cohesive marketing materials.
- Assist the Executive Director as needed with media relations.
- Manage and support the Content Coordinator.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in related field required (Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Professional Writing, etc.)
- A working understanding of a Wordpress website.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Suite, Canva, and familiarity with designing e-newsletters with related software.
- Well-versed in the use of social media as a tool for outreach, marketing, and fundraising.
- Understand social media and website metrics and best practices.
- Highly creative with experience identifying target audiences and devising marketing campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate.
