Under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, the Retail Pharmacy Technician - Certified accurately processes orders and delivers medications for to designated areas; refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication charges, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed.Pharmacy Technician - Certified - Retail

Education
Required - High School diploma or equivalent
Work Experience
Preferred - 2 years Retail Pharmacy experience
Certifications
Required - 1 year of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification
Preferred - Certified Pharmacy Technician License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
• Assists pharmacist and other Technicians to maintain an efficient medication distribution system in order to provide safe and efficient patient care.
• Bed-side delivery of medications to discharging patients
• Accurately fills, packages, and ships all pharmacy orders for Ochsner Transplant Patients
• Maintains competency by completing assigned, mandatory in-services and all mailbox in-services.
• Performs required audits, unit inspections and QA procedures.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
