Customer Engineer (Warsaw)
hyperexponentialAbout the role
Mission
We are an engineering-led technology scale-up applying complex computer science techniques to change the way risk is determined and to drive better decision-making.
This is done through our industry-first pricing decision intelligence platform, hx Renew. A web-based SaaS solution, hx Renew has been carefully engineered to let users build and deploy mathematical models that can then be used to harness the power of complex data sets, while at the same time enhancing their own technical skillset.
We are currently applying this to specialty insurance pricing and reinsurance. hx Renew has already solved a great number of deeply complex problems for its users, including how to insure a SpaceX launch! This involved wrangling all manner of weird and wonderful, fragmented datasets to calculate the risk of any possible obstacle and outcome, right from the astronauts’ arrival at the launchpad to the rocket breaking through each layer of earth's atmosphere and then a safe return to Earth, accounting for every potential obstacle along the way - including space debris!
We are currently partnered with some of the largest and most cutting-edge names in specialty and enterprise insurance today, and our client base is growing rapidly. Over the last 2 years we have grown from a 15-person start-up to a 100-person, post-Series A scale-up with teams in London at The Ministry, Borough, and Warsaw at Brain Embassy, Czackiego.
Technology at hyperexponential
Our engineering department is a melting pot of some of the brightest (and kindest!) engineers in the industry.
The level of complexity of hx Renew requires a highly technical, true engineering mindset so an output of this is a deeply creative, innovative environment where we push technological boundaries, both through our work and our regular (and sometimes irregular!) hackathons.
Your mission will be to help build out quality in all of the areas that support our production environments. These include, but are not limited to: super-smooth deployment and release processes, advanced monitoring and telemetry, advanced networking configurations, improving elasticity and ensuring that we can scale our cloud resources in a rapid and cost-efficient way, and making sure that we are pro-active in reliability.
Working alongside our Platform Engineering, Product Engineering, and Revenue/Customer teams, you’ll be responsible for making our platform and tooling provide the very best experience possible for our customers. And you’ll be key in the design and implementation of the next iterations of our platform architecture.
As a Customer Engineer you will be part of a high performing team who manages production environments, builds and delivers solution for our customers.
We are looking for someone with a passion for platform and tooling quality, who doesn’t accept the status quo and who won’t let minor ‘niggly’ issues remain unsolved.
Key Responsibilities
Working with the Customer Engineering leads you will be responsible for:
- Researching and developing solutions for our customers.
- Improving or redesigning our build and release processes, ensuring that we have the very best possible continuous development and deployment workflows.
- Creating state of the art monitoring and alerting, getting us to the point where we not only have self-healing infrastructure but also tooling to proactively spot and avoid issues.
- Managing cloud network architecture and configuring it to work with the customer’s infrastructure setup and comply with their requirements.
- Onboarding customers and resolving integration issues, writing tools to automate customer environment builds.
- Working with our Backend Engineering team to ensure that our back-end APIs are performant, scalable, and that support tooling is in place for them.
- Acting as an escalation point in the support process. The intention is that this is primarily an in-hours role, but as with all scale-outs there may be some occasional out-of-hours (evening and weekend) support requirements.
- Automate processes and common scenarios with code.
- Implementing performance monitoring and optimisation practices, ensuring that hx Renew performs as well as possible.
Experience and skills
To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:
- Successfully worked in a high-performance rapid scaling AWS-based environment - ideally in a single-tenant multi-environment configuration.
- Designed or implemented AWS-based platform architecture, alongside compute, storage, and networking (VPC, VPN or HTTP proxies)
- Demons
