This position contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago (“BZC”) and the goals of providing an extraordinary guest experience and financial sustainability by helping to generate revenue through the operation of the Carousel, Virtual Reality, and other attractions, and providing extraordinary guest experience by assisting with guests’ admissions needs and transactions, responding to inquiries, and providing overall support to the Guest Services department.

This is a seasonal non-union hourly position, grade GS004 with a pay rate of $16.00 per hour. Brookfield Zoo is open 363 days a year, the work schedule involves working various shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. We especially appreciate candidates who can commit to consistent weekday availability throughout the year. To ensure that BZC can provide reliable service and maintain a consistent quality experience for our guests, availability of a minimum of three days per week including one day on the weekend is strongly desired. Shifts typically range from 4 to 8 hours, with work schedules starting as early as 8:00 AM and ending as late as 7:00 PM (and 10:00 PM on weekends or for special events). Work schedules are based on the needs of the operation. This position requires the ability to move across Zoo grounds, remain stationary for long periods of time and perform work in a variety of weather conditions. Minimum age of 18 and valid driver’s license required.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. *Provide the highest level of quality customer service while representing Brookfield Zoo Chicago in a professional manner at all times. Provide assistance and directions to guests.
2. *Operate the Carousel, Virtual Reality, and other seasonal and temporary attractions, in a safe manner following established procedures. Perform and maintain daily operational checks.
3. *As needed, provide assistance in guests’ admission needs providing guests with essential information to assist them in purchasing the best value for their visit, maximizing their experience and generating revenue. Operate a point-of-sale (“POS”) cash register system with accuracy and efficiency including basic data entry.
4. *Provide assistance with Mold-A-Rama machine filling and uniform room as needed.
5. *Accountable for following and enforcing all applicable institutional policies and procedures and departmental protocols.
6. *Provide a neat, clean appearance of self, workspaces and attraction areas at all times, which includes washing and cleaning the attraction areas.
7. *Provide the access control function at the Carousel and other attractions by ensuring all guests boarding possess a ticket and tickets are scanned prior to entry.
8. Other related duties as assigned.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Accurate basic math and reading skills required.
• Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
• Good communications and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate well with the public required.
• Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information required.
• Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
• Valid driver’s license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.


DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or educational equivalent (e.g., GED.)
• Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
• Ability to operate a point-of-sales (POS) system desired.
