Position Overview
This position is accountable for the maintenance inventory and operation of all traffic signals, highway lighting, flashing beacons and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the district.

Essential Functions
- Performs the maintenance and inventory of traffic signal, flasher, highway lighting and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) installations and ensuring their proper operation according to state and federal standards.
- Reviews and ensures the proper timing of traffic signal controllers to ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible.
- Administers the contract maintenance for traffic signal and lighting systems throughout the district to ensure that the timing sequences that are required are implemented.
- Inspects traffic signal equipment used in highway construction projects to ensure that they are functioning in accordance to the standards set by Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD).
- Keeps abreast of developments in the traffic signal, lighting, ITS and related areas so that the district may avail itself of updates in lighting and traffic signal technology.
- Performs all duties in compliance with all district and departmental policies and procedures and safety rules and regulations.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR Seven years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and application of engineering techniques and regulatory practices pursuant to the design, construction, and maintenance of public sector electrical systems.
- Extensive knowledge of mathematics/mathematics applications.
- Industry certification and training pursuant to electrical, communications, and traffic signal systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
