Role Purpose:

 

To support the coordinator and class teachers in Teaching and Learning and with the care and well-being of the children at the British Council.

 

Role Context:

 

British Council has been delivering English courses to adults and young learners from its current premises in Deusto, Bilbao, for 20 years after moving from premises in central Bilbao.

The centre offers a full range of English courses for learners from the age of 3 upwards, including exam preparation courses and teacher training courses.

Much of the teaching takes place on the 15-classroom BC premises and also in classrooms rented from an educational institution in the same building at peak times. A significant proportion also takes place off-site in partner premises, including Early Years and Primary teaching. The Young Learner activity is a vital part of the Bilbao centre’s business. We aspire to offer the highest quality learner experience and the academic programme reflects the British Council’s methodology, corporate standards and learning offer.

 

Main Accountabilities/Responsibilities but not limited to the following:

  • To ensure the wellbeing and safety of pupils for all activities at all times
  • To ensure a safe and secure learning environment in the classroom and in all areas of the school
  • To ensure the use of effective strategies to promote positive behaviour of all pupils in the class
  • To receive and welcome students on the premises and those who may be late for class and informing parents about absences or of any issues
  • To help the class teacher to ensure that physical and emotional needs of the children are catered for and to take measures to ensure their health and safety at all times, including during break duties

 

  • To support and create attractive and interactive displays to extend learning both within and beyond the classroom
  • To use equipment and resources that are suitable for the size and maturity of the children in the class
  • To set up and clear the learning environment before and after each lesson as required
