LiquidPiston is a technology-driven engineering company developing advanced rotary engines based on a new thermodynamic cycle. Our team of ~40 engineers and professionals are solving some of the most challenging problems in propulsion today.
We’re seeking a skilled and motivated IT Manager / Network Systems Engineer to become a “one-person IT department” for our fast-paced and innovative team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an independent, hands-on environment and enjoys both strategic IT planning and tactical daily support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust IT infrastructure for a hybrid Windows and Linux environment
  • Install, configure, and upgrade servers, routers, switches, access points, and critical software
  • Support and troubleshoot desktop, network, and user issues across the organization
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to identify, procure, and deploy IT assets and services
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, including NIST 800-171 and CMMC 2.0
  • Implement and support security best practices, data protection measures, and backups
  • Maintain and upgrade physical and virtual servers, workstations, and endpoint devices
  • Setup and support Microsoft 365, Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, SSO, and file sharing
  • Support licensing and network performance for engineering software (SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB)
Required Qualifications
  • BS in IT, Computer Science, or related field (MS preferred)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing IT systems and infrastructure
  • Strong experience with both Linux and Windows Server environments
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation (e.g., Ansible)
  • Deep understanding of network compartmentalization, encryption, and authentication standards
  • Experience with NIST 800-171 / CMMC 2.0 implementation and compliance
  • Expertise with Microsoft 365, Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, and SSO
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage IT operations in a small-company setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as CCNA or equivalent networking credentials
  • Experience setting up and managing High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps practices
  • Hands-on experience with MySQL and relational database management
  • Python skills for scripting, automation, or data-related tasks (e.g., Pandas, SciKitLearn, SQLAlchemy)
  • Exposure to Machine Learning / Data Science infrastructure
  • Familiarity with N8N or similar workflow automation tools
