Working Pattern: Full time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN./Hybrid (3 days onsite on avg.)

Job Description:

As a Component Design Engineer for gas turbine Structures & Casings team, you will be part of the global Structures & Controls Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and also exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. Within your assigned propulsion system program, you’ll be responsible for developing, assessing, and delivering hardware and systems that push the envelope with performance, life, and efficiency.

What you will be doing

  • Develop new component designs and design changes for high-performance gas turbine hardware and systems, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing dimensional analyses, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to production.
  • Perform analyses for gas turbine hardware and systems to substantiate suitability for new engine applications, extended performance of existing engines, and interface requirements.
  • Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operation
  • Perform investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation.  Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, OR
  • JD/PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Technical writing ability / experience
  • Previous experience designing aerospace structural components
  • Previous experience designing investment and sand cast components
  • Previous experience designing components manufactured via additive layer manufacturing, especially laser powder bed fusion processing
  • Experience working in a New Product Introduction environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with all aspects of product design – customers, suppliers, other engineering specialt
