What you’ll be doing –
The Sr. Manager, Process Engineering will provide expert process engineering advice and set direction in the delivery of new and future production systems. The individual will interact with the Hershey Engineering Leadership Team frequently and will be relied upon to provide expertise and insight in strategic decisions on process engineering operational matters. They will challenge and advance new ways of achieving best in class process manufacturing results as well as provide process designs that ensure personnel safety and product safety and quality. In addition, this individual will collaborate with colleagues across all global businesses to develop strong working relationships while creating the next generation of The Hershey Company’s process engineering technical capabilities and leadership.
- The Process Engineering Solutions group in the Global Operations Engineering utilizes all aspects of conceptual engineering design, cost estimation techniques, project proposal development, supplier evaluations, equipment and system installation/start up, and successful transition of the system to the plant operating and maintenance staff. The job incumbent will be required to provide the optimal process solution for the given project. These solutions will include process support for all phases of the capital projects including development of system concepts, design, cost estimating. This individual must demonstrate a willingness to identify process, equipment and manufacturing alternatives that meet new business requirements or establish functional excellence.
- Provides technical leadership and professional guidance as Sr Manager for The Hershey Company and is fully versed in the in the practice of The Hershey Company Process Engineering activities within the Hershey Engineering Department. The Sr Manager must include expertise in many of the following operations: ingredient handling and transfer systems, process design and layout, capital estimating, mass balance, PFD, P&ID and Bid Package Development, Equipment specifications, Bar forming and confectionery manufacturing operations.
- Leads and manages diverse projects teams comprised of both inexperienced and highly skilled process engineers, plant operations teams, along with a broad composition of external contractors and suppliers. Able to simultaneously manage multiple large and complex unit operations, devises methods and procedures to ensure process equipment systems operate as designed.
- Represent the Company in professional and industrial organizations as required. This allows individuals to build a strong professional network, maintain freshness by learning current industry practices, and provides opportunity to benchmark process engineering skills.
- May also be required when appropriate, to act as a Project Manager and Process Engineer Lead to execute critical process focused engineering projects. Must communicate business critical project activities effectively to all levels of management and manage project budget, schedule decisions, and ultimately final project results.
Travel expectations for this role –
- This position will require some travel to various manufacturing site locations in North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico).
- Occasional travel to Hershey, PA is required for this role (when not on project site). For that reason, preference is for individual to be located as close to Hershey, PA as possible.
Specific focus areas in this role –
Actively leads, develops, and manages a staff of process engineers.
- Major responsibilities include: Managing individuals in the process engineering department; Preparing manufacturing feasibility assessments and capital cost estimates for various process related projects; Process Engineering support of capital projects, including process design and equipment selection, creation of PFD’s and P&ID’s, preparing equipment and construction bid specifications, and acquisition; Managing the process engineering portion of capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources (internal and contractors), as well as leading multi-functional teams in project execution; Developing process systems suitable for implementation in a manufacturing facility within the required project timetable; and ensuring all process designs deliver personnel safety as well as product safety and quality.
- Able to simultaneously lead and manage process portions of capital projects as needed and manage a large and diverse contractor and supplier base as capital projects are implemented.
