Job Duties
Purpose of Position: Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) have specialized psychiatric care nursing skills and assist individuals served with mental health recovery. LPNs are often responsible for medication administration and related duties, provision of physical or medical treatments, may take admission calls, assist with unit routines, and other duties under supervision of a RN.
LPNs assist in providing nursing care to individuals served by:
• Using the Nursing Process to implement and evaluate nursing care delivery as
reflected on the Nursing Care Plan part of the individual’s Interdisciplinary Treatment
Plan
• Creating healthy interpersonal interactions with individuals on adult acute admission
units, geriatric unit, and extended rehabilitation service unit
• Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for
individuals
• Administering medications, providing treatments, assisting with activities and
education, and other direct care services
• Documenting in the Electronic Health Record regarding observations,
communications, education, interventions, treatments, responses, and behaviors
• Under supervision of RN, overseeing care given by the Psychiatric Care Technicians
Minimum Qualifications
1. Experience working in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or
correctional setting is preferred.
2. Documenting in the Electronic Health Record regarding observations, communications,
education, interventions, treatments, responses, and behaviors
