About the role

At Northbay Health, The Cardiothoracic Surgeon / Medical Director, Cardiac Surgery Quality & Outcomes provides comprehensive adult cardiothoracic surgical care while serving as physician leader for NorthBay Health's Cardiac Surgery Quality Program. 

This 1.0 FTE position combines a 0.7 clinical practice with a 0.3 administrative leadership role, supporting quality improvement, physician mentorship, strategic program development, and clinical excellence across Northbay Health's Heart & Vascular Institute.

Practice Details

  • Adult cardiothoracic surgery practice serving patients throughout Solano and Napa Counties. 
  • 1.0 FTE position consisting of 0.7 Clinical FTE and 0.3 Medical Director FTE. 
  • Comprehensive adult cardiac and thoracic surgical practice with an emphasis on complex cardiac procedures.  
  • Opportunity to perform advanced mitral valve repair, reconstructive valve surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve replacement, thoracic aortic surgery, and additional cardiac and thoracic procedures consistent with training and experience. 
  • Active participation in a multidisciplinary Heart & Vascular Institute and Structural Heart Program. 
  • Shared cardiothoracic surgery call responsibilities. 
  • Physician leadership role focused on quality improvement, STS registry performance, physician mentorship, and cardiovascular program development. 

 

Inpatient/Outpatient Responsibilities: Combination of inpatient, outpatient, operative, and physician leadership responsibilities.

Schedule

  • 0.7 Clinical FTE / 0.3 Medical Director FTE 
  • Monday-Friday with shared cardiothoracic surgery call responsibilities. 

 

Daily Patient Census: Varies based on operative schedule, inpatient rounding, outpatient clinic, and surgical consultations.

  • Participation in the STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Registry and national cardiovascular quality initiatives 

 

Provider Support:

  • Vascular surgeons 
  • Cardiac anesthesiologists 
  • Intensivists 
  • Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) 
  • Perfusionists 
  • Rehabilitation specialists 
  • Quality leadership

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform the full spectrum of adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures. 
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, thoracic aortic disease, and other complex cardiac and thoracic conditions. 
  • Perform coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair and replacement, thoracic aortic surgery, and other advanced cardiac surgical procedures. 
  • Advanced mitral valve repair and reconstructive valve surgery experience preferred. 
  • Perform thoracic surgical procedures involving benign and malignant diseases of the lung, pleura, mediastinum, chest wall, and esophagus, consistent with training and experience. 
  • Collaborate with cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular surgery, pulmonology, oncology, gastroenterology, cardiac anesthesia, and critical care teams to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary patient care. 
  • Participate in Structural Heart and multidisciplinary Heart Team conferences. 
  • Provide inpatient consultation, postoperative management, and outpatient follow-up care. 
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment options, operative planning, and postoperative recovery. 
  • Lead the Cardiac Surgery Quality Program, including STS registry performance review and quality improvement initiatives.
