Staff Nurse - Berkshire Medical Center, Operating Room, Shift: Days, 30 hrs/wk

Job Summary

Registered Nurse is the designation given to an individual who is licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved school for professional nursing, and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. Included in such responsibility is providing nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, planning and restoration for optimal functioning and comfort, of those they serve.

The Registered Professional Nurse functions as a health care team leader responsible for the safe delivery of patient-centered, goal oriented care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Professional Nurse also directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Experience

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.
• Minimum of one year perioperative nursing experience preferred.
• One year or more med/surg nursing experience preferred.
• Will accept new grad applicants based on department needs.

Education and Training

• Associates Degree in Nursing. BSN preferred.
• CNOR required within 6 months of eligibility.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing process through his/her understanding, judgment, and skills.

License & Certification 

• RN License - Currently licensed as an RN in Massachusetts
• CPR
• ACLS within 6 months of hire

Additional Requirements

• Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations. Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.
• Assigned as needed in the OR call Rotation
• Float to Crane Ambulatory Center as needed.
• Occasional weekend or evening shifts based on department needs.
• Knowledge and application of surgical aseptic technique
• Ability to perform effectively in stressful and emergency situations
• Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing process through his/her understanding, judgment, and skills.

7am-5:30pm (primary); 9am-7:30pm

• Week 1 - Weds, Thurs Fri
• Week 2 - Tues, Thurs, Fri
• Week 3 - Weds, Thurs Fri
• Week 4 - Tues, Thurs, Fri

**APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE: Orientation schedule for RNs without prior OR experience is 40 hours, Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm, until orientation is complete (up to 10 months), regardless of master schedule. Orientation shift/hours may change to match preceptors schedule as orientation progresses.
