This position is an accounts receivable professional for two institutions, Inver Hills Community College (IHCC) and Dakota County Technical College (DCTC). This position is responsible for grants, accounts receivable, and 3rd party billing. It is responsible for the application of generally accepted accounting principles and effective management and collection of customer accounts, student and 3rd party. This position will be responsible for the Minnesota Department of Revenue (MDor) in AR turns and reduction of bad debt. This position requires effective working relationships with enrollment, financial aid, other staff and professional support of students.
Primary location of position will be at Inver Hills Community College.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting or 2 years of related paid work experience may substitute for associate's degree.
Working knowledge of accounts receivable and computerized billing systems sufficient to enter and access information, and identify and adjust for potential problems, cash management policies, state, and federal regulations sufficient to properly record revenue to the appropriate cost centers and object codes for accurate recorded financial information, and basis in sound business practices in cash receipts and internal control concepts
Policies, practices, and principles related to business office, student records, and data privacy
Math skills sufficient to maintain complete and accurate financial records and balance, reconcile and resolve discrepancies
Accounting skills sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts and bank accounts, and estimate needs based on historical data and events affecting the account, and skills sufficient to reconcile daily summaries of transactions to balance books
Ability to use business English grammar, spelling and punctuation to write and edit reports, letters, and other documents, use word processing, spreadsheets, and other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, financial statements, letters, and other documents, use a variety of office equipment such as calculators, personal computers and scanners, lead process improvement projects in department and cross-functionally, ability to interpret and explain accounting and related fiscal policies, procedures, and practices, and demonstrated ability to provide guidance and oversight to business office employees
Read and comprehend a variety of material and follow detailed instructions
Effectively communicate and elicit information with tact and diplomacy in difficult situations with an interest in positive problem solving, recognize errors or problems and recommend alternative solutions, and organize work and manage time to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Knowledge of MnSCU ISRS and working knowledge of accounts receivable module
Ability to document transaction flow, with debit and credit entries through accounts (t-Account)
Ability to understand and interpret statistical and financial data for the purposes of monitoring, developing, recommending, and implementing sound financial procedures
Understanding the law, policies, procedures and Legislative Auditor and Department of Management and Budget requirements for handling and depositing state funds
Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Financial Accounting Standards Board, and National Association of College and University Business Officers pronouncements
Understanding the importance of promoting a positive organizational climate
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the general public.
