Overview:   Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Building Inspection Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.
SummaryThe Senior Structural Engineer has a key role, responsible for the evaluation of existing conditions, the design of structural repair and envelope of protection systems, the management of bidding and construction processes, field observation/verification of work in process, and close client and contractor interaction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs construction projects
  • Analyzes engineering design problems
  • Calculates engineering specifications
  • Confers with engineering, technical, or manufacturing personnel
  • Draws prototypes and plans required for the job
  • Reads blueprints and technical drawings
  • Uses computer-aided drafting or design software for design, drafting, modeling, or other engineering tasks
  • Ensures conformance to building regulations
  • Evaluates construction quality
  • Inspects project operations or site to determine specifications compliance
  • Interprets property for construction, condition, or design.
  • Recognizes construction industry codes or symbols or blueprints
  • Uses field notes in technical drawings.
  • Creates mathematical or statistical diagrams or charts
  • Draw maps or charts
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Follows safety procedures
  • Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • Understands construction specifications and engineering data reports
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or  MS in Civil Engineering
  • Must have an active Engineering Intern License
  • Previous experience completing structural inspections
  • Must have an active P.E., S.I. License
  • 5+ years experience in the industry
  • Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 35 pounds regularly is expected, and up to 75 lbs on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions
  • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.
  • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
