Position Title: Biomedical Equipment Manager Position Classification: Regular, Exempt, Full-time, 40 hours/week Reports To: Director of Facilities and Biomed Location: Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely within the U.S. or a hybrid of these two options. Position Overview: The Biomedical Equipment Manager is a member of the International Operations team, which provides support and technical assistance to PIH sites around the world in the areas of supply chain, pharmacy, and infrastructure. The Biomedical Equipment Manager will focus on the continued development and standardization of biomedical equipment maintenance activities of Partners In Health’s (PIH) health care facilities across multiple countries where PIH works. The manager will work closely with and support biomed and clinical leads in multiple countries with the goal of maintaining and markedly improving the reliability of medical equipment at all PIH-supported facilities to ensure dignified, quality health care for all patients. The Biomedical Equipment Manager will work closely with PIH’s Cross Site Biomed Lead. Responsibilities: Planning and Budgeting - 30%
- Lead development of technical equipment specifications and comparison of new biomedical equipment, in partnership with the Cross Site Biomed Lead, care delivery site teams, sourcing team and technical advisors.
- Support PIH sites during the annual and multi-year planning and budgeting process for biomed work including maintenance, spare parts, accessories, service contracts, and new equipment.
- Serve as technical expert in discussions and projects concerning medical equipment, both internally and with external partners and institutional donors; provide technical assistance, oversight, and implementation support for grants from multilateral agencies and other donors.
- Contribute to annual and long-term planning and strategy for the International Operations department.
- Manage and supervise the Cross Site Biomed Lead within the International Operations department, ensuring staff are efficiently completing work, meeting site needs, and contributing to team goals
- Lead process of selecting and maintaining list of standardized equipment for PIH globally. Develop and document specifications and comparison of equipment options, features, and accessories. Seek feedback from clinical leads and biomedical leads for final decision.
- Develop set of standards, best practices, and corresponding training for site biomedical staff on use of CMMS, submitting parts requests, submitting new equipment requests, tracking parts and equipment orders.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for biomedical equipment maintenance.
- Act as technical subject matter expert for the International Operations team on all questions related to biomedical equipment: specifications, features, compatibility, use, selection, and maintenance.
- Act as point of contact for facilities and biomed leads at sites, responding to needs related to equipment requests, parts requests, and repairs in coordination with technical experts, service providers, and PIH’s Cross Site Biomed Lead.
- Develop maintenance plans for new and existing equipment.
- Develop list of spare parts, accessories, and consumables for equipment and work with supply chain team to develop systems for maintaining stock levels of key items.
- For new and existing equipment, negotiate service contracts and work with vendors and manufacturers to establish opportunities for technical assistance and training.
- Provide support to facilities leads when required.
- Develop training materials on technical topics related to biomedical equipment maintenance, including use of PIH’s standard test equipment and analyzers, and PIH’s standardized biomedical equipment models.
